Q: Why should a beginner start out with professional instruction?
A: Learning music is exactly the same as learning anything else. There is a right way and a wrong way. The wrong way may still get you to your goal, but It will take a roundabout path and you will miss a whole bunch of fundamentals along the way. On the other hand, learning the right way will provide the quickest path to your goals and you will develop good habits along the way. Professional instruction will guide you through the right way to learn music.
Q: How can an advanced player benefit from professional instruction?
A: Many advanced players have holes in their playing. For example, they may not have a good grasp on music theory or how to apply it to their playing. Or there may be a particular technique or style that they would love to explore, like slide guitar or fingerstyle playing. At Greenville Guitar Academy we offer not only private instruction for advanced players, but also one-time seminars that focus in on particular concepts and techniques.
Q: Why should I take lessons at Greenville Guitar Academy?
A: Greenville Guitar Academy is a very unique business that aims to do one thing and do it well. That one thing is teaching guitar and bass. We do not offer any retail so none of our teachers have sales quotas to meet and none of our students feel pressured to buy equipment that they don't need. We also refuse to overextend ourselves or our facilities by attempting to teach every instrument and art form under the sun. Because of this and our outstanding staff, we and our students believe that there is no better place in the upstate to learn guitar!
Q: How long will it take to learn how to play guitar?
A: That is the most frequently asked question and the answer is very short, it depends. Each student learns at a different speed, has different goals, and practices different amounts of time, so there is no way to predict how long it will take for them to get "good." However, we can guarantee that each student will learn something new each week and will leave their first lesson with at least one song under their belt.
Q: How much does professional guitar instruction cost?
A: At Greenville Guitar Academy we offer instruction to fit any budget.
Group Guitar Classes are less than $19 per hour class (paid in 8 week sessions $150)
Private Guitar Lessons are only $90 per month for weekly half-hour lessons
Private Drum Lessons are $100 per month for weekly half-hour lessons

Q: What is the real difference between private lessons and group classes?
A: Both private lessons and group classes will help you achieve your guitar playing goals efficiently. The only real difference is in the speed and path you take to reach them.
Private lessons afford the student a custom environment that allows more for the expression of the student's individual musical taste. Also, teachers are able to go into further detail in private lessons than in group classes. Overall, students can expect to move quicker in private lessons than they would in group classes. Private lessons are the only option for intermediate and advanced players.
Group classes offer an outstanding introductory experience to the guitar/bass student. While not moving as quickly as private lessons, students will still learn at a brisk pace. The environment is relaxed and the classes are non-competitive. Each lesson will build on the lesson before and students will be playing music after week 1.

Q: How much practice will be necesary to learn the guitar?
A: Initially, putting in about 10-15 minutes a day should be adequate. As the student progresses they will invest more and more time. Practicing the guitar is actually pretty fun, especially when you are challenged by new songs and techniques.
Q: What equipment is needed to get started?
A: A guitar and a notebook (three ring binder with notebook paper). If you don't own a guitar yet, we would be happy to rent you one to get started with. Click here for Rental Information!
Q: What happens if I have to miss a lesson?
We have a 24 hour notice policy for private lessons. Basically, as long as you let us know that you will be missing and give us 24 hrs or more notice, then we will gladly reschedule your lesson. Otherwise, the lesson is forfeit.
Missed Group Lessons will not be made up.

Q: What should I do while my child takes their lesson?
A: We would love to have you stick around, you can sit in during your child's lesson, play Wii in the waiting room, or read a book/magazine in the lounge. However, many parents choose to knock out some shopping at one of the many nearby retailers which is perfectly fine as well.
Q: What are your hours and how can I contact you?
A: We don't keep regular office hours currently but would love to set up a time to meet with you, just give us a call at (864) 248-0606 (please leave a message as we can't take time from lessons to answer the phone) or shoot us an email at greenvilleguitaracademy@yahoo.com
