Stephen was born and raised in Columbia, SC and has been playing guitar and bass professionally for twelve years. For the past seven years he has taught guitar and bass at all three Star Music locations in Columbia. His teaching style is very student oriented, and he places emphasis on creativity and initiative in both playing and writing music. Student performance opportunities are very important to Stephen, so during the past two springs he organized student showcases at Headliner's, the main rock venue in Columbia. He was fortunate enough to coax the amazing rhythm section behind King Hippo (Dennis Ware and Tom Eden) into laying down the groove for his students and their guitars.

Stephen studied music at the University of South Carolina and guitar under jazz guitarist Robert Newton. His musical tastes include blues, classical, country, folk, jazz, hip-hop, and especially rock. He has shared the stage with musicians like drummer John Blackwell (Prince, Patti Labelle) and guitarist/keyboardist Les Hall (Crossfade, Trey Anastasio). In Columbia, Stephen organized two seperate charitable performances of the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic "Jesus Christ Superstar" that included members from various local and regional groups. Currently, Stephen is the lead guitarist for The Fossil Record!

Here are a couple of songs that Stephen wrote and recorded with Death to Van Gogh's Ear back in the year 2000!

04 Within Me is You

08 Vermillion Dreams
